BOSTON - UMBC men's soccer freshman Nico Banks was named America East Co-Rookie of the Week for the first time in his young career today.

Banks, a freshman defender from Brunswick, Md., scored his third goal of the season on Saturday, heading home a corner kick off the foot of Adamo Pantaleo to put UMBC ahead 1-0 at Binghamton. The Retrievers and Bearcats would eventually draw, earning UMBC its first conference point of the season.

Banks is the second Retriever to earn Rookie of the Week honors this season, joining Flynn Holdem, who earned the honor twice. Banks is now tied with Holdem and Abdul Kamara for the team lead with three goals this season.

UMBC returns to action on Saturday at New Hampshire for a 3 p.m. kick.
