Box Score Emmitsburg, Md. – Host Mount St. Mary's sandwiched a pair of second half goals around a score by UMBC junior midfielder Caroline Koutsos (Boyds, Md./Good Counsel) and prevailed, 2-1, in warm conditions at Waldron Family Stadium.
UMBC dropped to 2-2-2 on the season, while The Mount snapped a four-game slide and improved to 2-6.
"We struggled for 90 minutes to execute the game plan," said head coach Vanessa Mann. "The test of our character as a squad is how we respond to this. Our entire focus right now is to prepare to do our jobs Thursday versus Wagner."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Each team attempted five shots and three corners in a scoreless first half.
- Mount's Hannah Cooksey got in behind the UMBC defense and put her side on the board in the 58'
- UMBC knotted the game in the 79' as Megan Chun's (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) corner into the heart of the box, was knocked by freshman Emma Heijstee (Bilthoven, The Netherlands) back to the near left post and Koustos left-footed the pass under the crossbar from six yards out.
- But the tie only lasted 45 seconds. On a quick restart from midfield, Mount played a long ball over the left side of the UMBC defense and Elisabeth Rockhill found a wide open net to deposit the ball.
- Chun put a shot on goal in the final minute, but it was saved and the Mount came away with the victory.
