Box Score Towson, Md.-- UMBC women's soccer got a first half goal from Erin Stevenson (Sellersville, Pa.) to take an early lead, but Towson answered in the second half in a 1-1 draw on Sunday night. UMBC stays unbeaten on the year and moves to 1-0-1 while Towson moves to 1-1-2.
The goal from Stevenson was her first of the season and the ninth in her career.
"What I appreciated today was the resiliency of our ladies in the fact that we at times put ourselves in difficult situations but had the resolve to continue to get after it," head coach Vanessa Mann said after the match. "That was a very talented Towson team and this was the test our women needed at this point of our journey this fall. We will continue to pound the stone daily and our entire focus is on Delaware."
HOW IT HAPPENED:

Towson came out and outshot the Retrievers 12-4 over the first 45 minutes.

Junior Morgan McGruder (Overland Park, Kan.) was solid in net making big save after big save.

UMBC finally broke through just before the break with Erin Stevenson netting a free kick from 35 yards out. Her shot skipped through the defense and past Towson keeper Riley Melendez to give UMBC a 1-0 lead in the 45th minute.

Towson came out in the second half firing, but once again McGruder was up to the task.

Izzy Binko (Selbyville, Del.) and Esther Juretzka (Bonn, Germany) both had good chances early, but could not break through.

Towson tied it in the 70th minute with a goal that beat McGruder to tie it at 1-1.

The Tigers had the better chances in the overtime sessions, but the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Retrievers will return to Retriever Soccer Park to kick-off a three-game homestand against Delaware on Thursday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m.
