STRAIGHT FACTS
The Retrievers opened the game on a three-goal run, starting with a quick-shot from freshman Dymin Gerow (Baltimore, Md./Episocopal) off a feed from Lily Kennedy (Marriotsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) just 39 seconds into the game.
Seniors Olivia Docal (Glenwood, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel) and Courtney Renehan (Mt. Airy, Md./Glenelg/Maryland) followed up to help give UMBC the early lead with a little under five minutes off the clock.
UMass Lowell got on the board with 19:12 to play before Renehan added her second of the day off a pass from graduate student Katie Schluederburg (Elkridge, Md./Howard/Penn State) to make it a 4-1 advantage for UMBC.
However, the River Hawks went on a five-goal scoring spurt, including a man-up goal and three-straight from Izzy Liquori to give UMass Lowell a 6-4 lead with 7:25 to play in the first period.
Docal ended the scoring run with 16 seconds on the clock on a free-position shot. Nine seconds later, sophomore Claire Bockstie (Forest Hill, Md./Maryvale Preparatory) tied the game up at 6-6 on a man-up goal, with an assist from Renehan.
Out of halftime, sophomore Megan Halczuk (Fawn Grove, Pa.) netted her first of the day to put the Retrievers up, 7-6, 46 seconds into the second half.
The teams traded goals, with the River Hawks evening the score up at 7-7 before Gerow scored from the eight-meter mark. UMass Lowell once again tied the game up, 8-8, with 24:04 to play, but UMBC used a six-goal scoring run to take the lead.
Bockstie started the run at the 22:52 mark on a free position shot before assisting on a Halczuk goal to give UMBC a 10-8 lead.
With 13:43 to play, Docal added her third of the day and second from the eight-meter to push the Retrievers up, 11-8, before Renahan collected her hat trick at the 11:47 mark.
44 seconds after Renahan's goal, Gerow netted her third of the day to put the Retrievers up by five, before Bockstie scored the last in the run to give UMBC a 14-8 advantage with 9:58 to play.
The teams went back and forth on scoring, with Docal and Bockstie scoring the final two goals for the Retrievers during the last eight minutes of play.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
57 - Halczuk collected seven draw controls on the afternoon, putting her at 57 on the season and moving up to eighth overall in program history.
15 - Season-high saves for goalkeeper Lexi Roberts (Baldwin, Md./Fallston/Army West Point). Her career-high of 16 was set during the shortened 2020 season against Lehigh and Temple.
12 - Bockstie is currently riding a 12-game scoring streak, dating back to last season. The sophomore has recorded a point in every game she's played in and is on a six-game multi-point streak.
6 - UMBC went 6-7 from the eight-meter mark for the game, including a perfect 4-4 in the second half. Gerow and Docal were both 2-2 from the free-position mark.
