NEWARK, N.J. - UMBC women's soccer recorded nine shots and two corners, but the most important ones came in the 99th minute of play to help set up the game-winning goal that gave the Retrievers the 1-0 victory of the NJIT Highlanders.

UMBC picks up its first season and conference win, moving to 1-2-1 overall and 1-2-0 in America East play. NJIT falls to 2-4-1 overall and 0-3-1 in conference contests.
STRAIGHT FACTS
The game-winning goal was set up with a minute left in the first overtime by a corner kick from junior Morgan Rees (Ardmore, Pa.) The ball sailed towards the top of the penalty box, where senior Meredith Webber (Yardley, Pa.) was able to get a head on it and send it towards the net.
Freshman Meghan McKye (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) deflected the ball into the back of the net to seal the win for UMBC.
Each team was pretty even in the first half, with NJIT outshooting UMBC, 4-3, with Alyssa Palmucci (Mullica Hill, N.J.) and McKye each putting shots on goal for the Retrievers.
In the second half, Jade Wilkins (Stoney Beach, Md./The Catholic High School) was a key part in helping to send the game into overtime, making four saves in the second period.
Freshman Grace Harvey (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) and Rees each looked to put UMBC on the board in the second half but were met by NJIT's goalkeeper.

UMBC's final road game will be on Saturday, April 3 as the team travels to UMass Lowell. The Retrievers and River Hawks are set to kick off at 12 p.m.
