Baltimore, Md. -- The UMBC Volleyball team (8-3, 7-3 AE) looks to clinch a spot in the America East Championship when it welcomes Hartford (4-4, 4-4 AE) to campus on Sunday for a Senior Day doubleheader. Match times are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The Retrievers will honor senior Anouk Van Noord (Amsterdam, Netherlands) prior to the first match.
UMBC controls its own fate in the hunt for a spot in the America East Championship, as two wins on Sunday will clinch a spot. The Retrievers can also make the title match with one win and one loss by New Hampshire this weekend (vs NJIT and UAlbany). Last week, UMBC went 3-1 in a four match in two days pod at NJIT. The Retrievers took both matches against the host Highlanders and split a pair of matches against UNH.
For the second consecutive week, and third time in a month, freshman setter Aysia Miller (Mililani, Hawaii) has been named America East Rookie of the Week, the Conference announced on Tuesday. Miller has now won six total awards in five weeks, with three Setter of the Week honors to pair with her Rookie of the Week awards. She compiled 157 assists in the four matches last weekend. Miller had 45 digs to average a double-double on the weekend, while averaging 10.47 assists per set.
Freshman Michela De Marzi (Milan, Italy) picked up 22 kills on .442 hitting to help lead the UMBC Volleyball team to a pair of four set wins over New Hampshire last Saturday. De Marzi finished with 12 kills on .579 hitting with two blocks in the nightcap against the hosts.
