DAWG BITES

The Retrievers used 11 different goal scorers to defeat Hartford, 25-7, on March 13. Senior Courtney Renehan used a career-high seven goals to help power the offense, along with multiple goals from sophomores Claire Bockstie (4) and Megan Halczuk (2), freshmen Dymin Gerow (2) and Camden Demaio (2), senior Olivia Docal (2), and graduate student Katie Schluederberg (2).

Hartford kept UMBC at bay with just a 5-3 lead with just under 19 minutes on the clock in the first half, but the Retrievers closed the first half out on a 10-1 run, including four from Renehan and three from Bockstie.

Renehan was named America East Offensive Player of the Week after her performance against the Hawks. The senior currently ranks seventh in the conference in goals per game (2.75) and leads the Retrievers with 11 total goals.

Goalkeeper Lexi Roberts is third in the conference in saves percentage (.482), second in saves per game (10.00), and first in ground balls per game (4.25). She is also 4th in the nation in ground balls per contest, 19th in saves per game, and 30th in saves percentage.

Halczuk is 15th in the NCAA in draw controls per game (7.00), a stat that also leads the America East. As a team, the Retrievers are 13th in the nation with a 60.2 draw control percentage.

About the Opponent: New Hampshire Wildcats

New Hampshire has fallen in both of its America East matchups - 13-4 to Vermont on March 13 and narrowly falling to UAlbany, 13-12, in overtime on March 6. The Wildcats' lone win comes back on February 26 against Merrimack, 20-9.

In the overtime game against the Great Danes, UAlbany led, 9-5, heading into halftime before New Hampshire scored three straight out of the break to close the gap to one. The teams went back and forth but the Wildcats scored two at the end of the game to tie things up at 12-12 with 2:23 on the clock, but UAlbany found the back of the net with the golden goal.

Julia Neyland leads New Hampshire with 12 points (9g, 3a) followed by Liv Dunn (7g, 2a) and Rylee Leonard (3g, 6a). In goal, Issy Torres has made 35 saves in all four appearances

THE SERIES

This will be the 19th meeting between the two teams, with New Hampshire holding a 14-4 lead in the series.

In 2019, the Wildcats and Retrievers battled it out with UNH prevailing, 15-10. New Hampshire led, 9-5, at the half but UMBC scored five out of the break to take a 10-9 lead. The Wildcats held the Retrievers scoreless the 20 minutes of the game and use a six-goal run to retake the lead.
