Box Score Baltimore, Md. -- Brett McIntyre (Calgary, Alberta, Canada.),
Steven Zichelli (Severna Park, Md.) and
Ryan Frawley (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) each scored twice while goalie
Tommy Lingner (Fort Salonga, N.Y.) made 13 saves for the Retrievers but No. 15 Georgetown took command midway through the game en route to a 14-8 victory over UMBC on Saturday afternoon.
UMBC (0-1) opened its season on a cold day at home and started well, and the game was tied 3-3 after one quarter. But Georgetown (2-0) then took charge in the middle two periods, and the Hoyas outscored the Retrievers 9-2 during that stretch for a 12-5 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Retrievers scored three in a row in the fourth quarter but it was not enough to catch Georgetown. Lingner was busy in the second and third periods, making five stops in each and helping the Retrievers stay within striking distance.
The Hoyas won 19 of the game's 24 face-offs which enabled them to keep possession for longer stretches and keep the potent Retriever offense at bay.
UMBC plays again next Saturday with its first road contest of the season when they head to Mount St. Mary's for a noon matinee.
