Box Score Eight different Retrievers recorded a kill, but visiting Temple swept the UMBC Volleyball team in three sets (25-17, 25-14, 25-16) on Saturday afternoon to conclude the UMBC invitational.
Franchesca Reed (Aurora, Colo.) and Niki Khoshatefeh (Temecula, Calif.) each hit over .300 while recording five kills. Kamani Conteh (New Castle, Del.), Carmen Freeman (Memphis, Tenn.) and Paige Krenik (Foothill Ranch, Calif.) aalso tied for the team-lead with five kills each. Anouk Van Noord (Amsterdam, Netherlands) filled the stat sheet with three kills (.375 hitting), two digs and two blocks.
Setter Taylor Dunn (Virginia Beach, Va.) just missed a double-double, finishing with 18 assists and nine digs, while senior libero Brooke Hayden (Mt.Airy, Md.) also had nine digs. Freshman setter Riley Putnicki (Monument, Colo.) had five assists and an ace, while junior Elayna Williams (Ellicott City, Md.) picked up a kill in her return to action from an October 2017 injury.
UMBC (1-2) continues its season-pening six match homestand when it hosts Saint Francis (Pa.), George Mason and Delaware as part of the Retriever Challenge next weeknd. The Black & Gold will again play twice on Friday, against SFU at 1 p.m. and GMU at 7 p.m., before wrapping up the weeknd with a 2 p.m. match against the Blue Hens on Saturday.
