BALTIMORE – Despite massive offensive effort by UMBC attackmen Ryan Frawley (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) and Trevor Patschorke (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park), the Retrievers fell, 13-12, in overtime to UMass Lowell on Senior Day at UMBC Stadium.

Frawley recorded a career-high 6-goal, 7-point game, while Patschorke scored three goals, including the game-tying goal with two seconds left in regulation.

Each team had one possession in the extra period before the River Hawks scored the game-winner. Frawley misfired on two low percentage chances, the second occurring just before the shot clock expired. The River Hawks' (5-8, 2-3 America East) Isaac Bot, who also scored six goals, tallied the game-winner from the a short right angle with 57 seconds left to play in the first overtime period.

The game featured nine ties with UMBC (3-8, 1-4 America East) fighting back twice in the fourth quarter to knot the score. On the game-tying play, after a UML time-out with 6.3 seconds left, Patschorke took the ball from behind right side of the goal, dashed out front, rolled back and bounced a shot past UML netminder Grant Lardieri.

The River Hawks had a pair of two-goal leads (3-1, 9-7), and UMBC built one at 7-5 after Frawley scored the first two goals in the first 3:41 of the third quarter. UML went on the day's biggest run, netted four consecutive goals to take a 9-7 advantage with 5:35 to play in the third. But, Frawley scored an unassisted goal and set up sophomore midfielder Steven Zichelli (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) for the Retrievers' ninth goal with 19 seconds left in the period.

Frawley gave UMBC a short-lived 10-9 lead, finishing a Patschorke feed just 25 seconds into the fourth quarter. UML recaptured the advantage with back-to-back goals, but senior midfielder Billy Nolan (Crofton, Md./Arundel) knotted the score at 11-all with 6:32 remaining. The visitors responded to take a 12-11 lead 85 seconds later, setting up Patschorke's late regulation heroics.

The River Hawks controlled time of possession, as America East's leading face-off specialist Liam McDonough, won 22 of 29 draws. But UMBC caused 9 of the River Hawks 21 turnovers to give the Retriever offense ample opportunities to produce.

The Retrievers held a narrow advantage in shots at 41-40 and Lardieri was credited with 12 saves for the guests. UMBC sophomore netminder Tommy Lingner (Fort Salonga, N.Y.) stopped six River Hawk shots.

UMBC finished the home schedule at 3-3 and all three setbacks occurred in overtime.

The Retrievers complete the regular season schedule at Hartford on Saturday, April 27 at noon.
