Box Score BALTIMORE - Senior Nikki Saad (Hummelstown, Pa.) scored the equalizing goal in the 82nd minute but the UMBC women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker to the Hartford Hawks, 2-1 in double overtime on Sunday afternoon.
Prior to the game, the team honored Saad, as well as seniors Courtney Culp, Rayven Conner, and Jess Hopkins in their final home game.
STRAIGHT FACTS
The Retrievers got off to a quick shot as Hopkins sent a shot on goal just 40 seconds into the game, but Hartford's Maia Perez made the save.
Hopkins and Saad also sent shots in the 3rd and 5th minutes, but both went high over the net.
The Hawks took a 1-0 lead with 23 seconds remaining in the first half on their only shot after Gabrielle Gamory sent a pass to the foot of Skylar Vitiello.
Saad sent the first shot of the second half into the arms of Perez as the Hawks held onto their lead.
Erin Stevenson (Sellersville, Pa.) gave the Retrievers a chance to tie the game up in the 78th minute when her shot hit the crossbar and bounced away from the net.
Saad sent her equalizing shot of the game into the net in the 82nd minute from the left side of the box.
Hartford's Sierra Stone looked to end the game in the 83rd minute, but Jade Wilkins (Stoney Beach, Md./The Catholic High School) got a hand on the ball to force the game into overtime.
The first ten minutes were pretty quiet, as the Hawks were the only team to get a shot off as Kalia Lozada sent a ball into the hands of Wilkins.
The Hawks sent two shots on goal in the second overtime period - first in the 106th minute off the foot of Vitiello and into the arms of Wilkins. Lozada scored the game-winner in the 107th after she took a pass from Stone.

Hartford moves to 8-6-1 on the year and 5-2-0 in America East play. UMBC falls to 2-12-2 overall and 1-6-0 in conference contests.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Saad's goal was her first of the season; she also led all players with three shots. Hopkins was second with two on the day.
The Retrievers edged out the Hawks, 11-8, in shots; all 11 of UMBC's shots came in regulation.
This was UMBC's fourth overtime game of the season; last year, the Retrievers only saw extra time in two contests.
MINDING THE NET
Perez picked up the win in net, making two saves on the day. Wilkins made three saves in almost 107 minutes of play.

The Retrievers will close out the 2019 season on the road as they travel to Binghamton on Thursday, October 31 for a 7 p.m. match against the Bearcats.
