BALTIMORE – Thirteenth-ranked New Hampshire (9-0-2, 3-0-0 America East) scored an early second half goal and held off a scrappy UMBC side (4-6-1, 0-2-1) down the stretch to prevail, 1-0, in America East action.

The game was played before a UMBC Homecoming crowd of 2,566, the fifth-largest in Retriever Soccer Park history.

Both teams had golden scoring chances go by the boards in the first half. In the 20', UNH's Fabian Lutz had a point blank look, but Retriever sophomore netminder Quantrell Jones (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) smothered the attempt. In the final minute of the half, UMBC freshman back Julian Conze (Telgte, Germany) got position deep in the box and headed a long Jordan Ehart (Severna Park, Md./Mount St. Joseph) throw-in on goal, but Wildcat goalkeeper Alejandro Robles made the close-range stop.

But the visitors struck just 2:33 into the second half. After dispossessing UMBC at midfield, Bilal Kamal fed Jack Doherty, who raced deep into the UMBC left end of the field. Doherty's short centering feed found an open Antonio Colacci and the senior midfielder converted from seven yards out.

The Retrievers had two quality opportunities in the final 29 minutes. In the 61', Senior midfielder Nick Gumbs (Damascus, Md./Damascus) got in deep, but had a sharp left side angle, and hit the left side-netting from nine yards away.

With ten minutes remaining, senior midfielder Colin Weyant (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) drew a foul 20 yards from the goal outside the right edge of the box. Conze's left-footed hooking shot went just wide of the near right post.

UNH outshot UMBC, 11-5, and took six of the game's eight corner kicks. Jones made four saves for the Retrievers, while Robles stopped three for his side.

The Wildcats' win tied the all-time series at 8-8-6, but it was just their second win in 12 meetings in Baltimore.
