Women's Soccer Falls to New Hampshire, 1-0, in Overtime

BALTIMORE – In the America East opener for the both teams, the UMBC women's soccer team fell, 1-0, to the New Hampshire Wildcats in overtime on Sunday afternoon.

STRAIGHT FACTS

  • UNH came out firing first in the third minute, as Megan Rumbold placed a shot on goal that Leah Roth (Valencia, Pa.) was able to catch for her first save of the day.
  • Danielle Fuentes (Rockville, Md./Magruder) took two shots that went and Christina Corbi (Medford, N.J.) had a shot go wide in the first 10 minutes of the game.
  • Elysia Paolillo (Holliston, Mass.) sent a shot in the 18th minute, but her attempt sailed wide of the net as well.
  • In the course of three minutes, New Hampshire placed three shots within the goal, but Roth was able to save one while the others were sent high or wide.
  • To start the second half, UNH started just as hot as they ended the first, sending a shot towards the goal in the first three minutes that was blocked.
  • Roth made back-to-back saves in a three minute period that helped to keep the Wildcats out of the net and keep the game at 0-0.
  • UMBC's only shot attempt in the second half came in the 77th minute, when Fuentes had her shot blocked by a defender.
  • After UNH's Ally Reynolds sent a shot towards the net in the first minute of the overtime period that Roth saved, the Wildcats were able to score the game's only goal.
  • In the 93rd minute, Kaylan Williams passed the ball to Liz Lane, who launched a shot from 15 feet out into the right corner of the net.

New Hampshire moves to 5-4-1 overall and 1-0-0 in America East play, while UMBC falls to 1-9-0 on the season and 0-1-0 in conference play.

MINDING THE NET
Mia Neas moved to 5-4-1 on the season, picking up her second shutout of the year. Roth fell to 1-7-0 on the year but made eight saves in goal, setting a new season-high. 

ONTO THE NEXT ONE
The Retrievers return home to Baltimore to face the Binghamton Bearcats on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN3. Tickets can be purchased at tickets.umbc.edu.
