Box Score Baltimore, Md.-- UMBC men's soccer picked up their first win in conference play, and fifth overall in a 3-1 win on Saturday night against the River Hawks. Sophomore Matt Bailey (Stevensville, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) scored twice to lead UMBC to the victory. The goals were the first of his collegiate career.

UMBC had the first shot of the game, as James Gielen (Edgewater, Md./DeMatha) ripped a shot from just outside the box, but his attempt sailed high.

The River Hawks had the best chance of the first half, as Jakov Basic hit the post on his attempt in the 36th minute.

UMass Lowell led the Retrievers in shots, 4-3 in the first 45 minutes, as both teams played well defensively to close the first half tied 0-0.

UMBC wasted no time in the second half, earning a corner kick just two minutes into the half.

Kyle Saunderson (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) got the scoring started with a header off a Colin Weyant (Perry Hall, Md./Perry Hall) corner kick to give UMBC a 1-0 lead.

Ivan Abramovic had a good chance just minutes later, but starting keeper Quantrell Jones (Baltimore, Md./Kenwood) made a point-blank save and the rebound went wide to keep UMBC in front.

The River Hawks would threaten again in the 59th minute, but the shot by Jannick Baumer clanged off the crossbar.

Bailey added to the Retriever tally, taking a ball in the midfield and slotting it past River Hawk keeper Patrik Gujic in the 64th minute.

Bailey added the insurance just two minutes later, heading home a Jon Bell (Silver Spring, Md./Richard Montgomery) free kick to give UMBC a 3-0 lead.

UMass Lowell scored a goal in the 88th minute, but it would be too little too late as UMBC held on for a 3-1 win.
