Swimming and Diving Takes on William and Mary on Saturday

BALTIMORE - The UMBC swimming and diving programs return to the pool as they host William and Mary at UMBC Aquatic Complex on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. in the team's annual Pink Meet. Both men's and women's programs will be sporting pink shirts during the meet for breast cancer awareness.

SCOUTING THE RETRIEVERS

The Retrievers took to the pool last Friday, Oct. 12 as both teams fell to the Navy Midshipmen. The men fell, 198-100, and the women fell, 185-107. The teams are both 2-1 on the season.

 

32 Retrievers finished in the top 5 across the meet, with 20 on the women's side and 12 on the men's side.

 

Junior Ilia Rattsev (Moscow, Russia) was the top swimmer at the meet, earning three first place finishes in the 50, 100, 200 free. Rattsev was later named America East Male Swimmer of the Week for his efforts.

 

On the women's side, senior Hania Moro (New Cairo, Egypt) finished first in the 1000 free, second in the 500 free, and third in 200 free.

 

SCOUTING THE TRIBE

William and Mary travels to Maryland as they participate in a quad meet with Navy, Towson, and Johns Hopkins on Friday, Oct. 19.

 

The men and women's teams both fell narrowly to East Carolina, 136-126, in their opening meets on October 13.

 

The Tribe has five individual winners against the Pirates, including Colin Wright, who won both the 100 and 200 free on the men's side. Anna Kenna swept the back discipline, while also helping lead the 200 medley relay to a victory.

 

During the meet, Megan Bull broke the Tribe's 1000 free record, touching in with a time of 10:10.97.
