Swimming and Diving Travels to Towson on Saturday

BALTIMORE, Md. – The UMBC swimming and diving team returns to the water on Saturday, October 21 as they head to Towson to take on the Tigers in a dual meet. The diving portion of the meet will take place at 10 a.m. from Burdick Pool, while the swimming events will begin at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out:

Both teams are coming off of losses to Navy in the home opener on Friday, October 13. The men's 200 yard medley relay team of Alexander Gliese, Luis Galvan, Philip Adejumo, and Jared Vance started the day with a second place finish, touching in with a time of 1:33.49.

Sophomore Ilia Rattsev (Moscow, Russia) won the first individual event for the men, taking first in the 200 free with a time of 1:40.49. Rattsev also took first in the 50 free (21.07) and 100 free (46.25).

Gliese took first in the 100 back, touching in with a time of 51.32 and the 200 back in a time of 1:49.78. Adejumo came in second in the 100 fly, touching in with a time of 50.76, just .03 seconds off first place.

The women's 200 medley relay team also started the day with a second place finish as Emily Vance, Maddy Popalis, Natalija Marin, and Laura Massicotte touched in with a time of 1:47.77.

Marin earned individual wins in the 200 fly with a time of 2:03.69 and the 100 fly with a time of 56.42. Junior Hania Moro (New Cairo, Egypt) earned first in the 1000 free (10:14.99) and 500 free (5:01.66), while taking second in the 200 free with a time of 1:52.43.

On the boards, sophomore Abby Biddulph (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) earned first place in the 3 meter dive with a score of 221.93. Classmate Devin Gromen (Crofton, Md./South River) earned second in the 1 meter dive with a score of 219.97.

Gliese took home America East Male Swimmer of the Week for his performance during the meet.
