Houston – The 31st-ranked Rice women's tennis team defeated UMBC, 7-0, at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.

After the Owls captured the doubles point with decisions at the Nos. 1 and 3 positions, all of the singles matches were decided in straight sets. UMBC junior Mariami Dolashvili (Alushta, Ukraine) played the most tightly-contested match, dropping a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Allison Ho at the No. 3 position.

UMBC returns to the snowy mid-Atlantic and will take on Virginia Tech in Blacksburg on Jan. 31.
