UMBC Baseball Travels to Stony Brook for Key America East Series

Stony Brook Game Notes

Baltimore, Md.—UMBC baseball will hit the road for a three game America East set with the Seawolves this weekend. The Retrievers have won their last four games to move to 14-10, 4-2 AE on the year.

WHO: UMBC (14-10, 4-2 AE) vs. Stony Brook (13-11, 6-2 AE)

WHEN: Saturday, April 11 (DH, 12:00 p.m.) and Sunday, April 12 (12:00 p.m.)

Game 1- UMBC- Joe Vanderplas (2-3, 4.67 ERA) vs. Stony Brook- Tyler Honahan (4-2, 3.92 ERA)

Game 2- UMBC- Conrad Wozniak (1-0, 0.90 ERA) vs. Stony Brook- Daniel Zamora (3-2, 3.79 ERA)

Game 3- UMBC- Matt Chanin (3-0, 1.88 ERA) vs. Stony Brook- TBA

 

Scouting the Retrievers (14-10, 4-2 AE):

UMBC sits at 14-10, 4-2 AE on the year, having won four of their last five games. The Retrievers remained a perfect 9-0 at home, following a 10-5 comeback win against George Washington on Tuesday.

Nick Naumann (Essex, Md./John Carroll/Chestnut Hill) has been impressive, hitting .337 on the year, going 28-83 from the dish. Naumann has smacked a home run, while driving in 13 and swiping five bases. Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) are second on the squad with a .322 batting average. Casali has started every game for UMBC, hitting one home run, with 18 RBI's and stealing six bases. Dolshun has 16 RBI with a team best seven doubles.

Freshman Matt Chanin (Olney, Md./Sherwood) and junior Conrad Wozniak (Cypress, Texas/Cypress Woods/Frank Phillip) are leading the pitching staff, with a 1.88 and 0.90 ERA each. Chanin is sitting at 3-0 on the year in four starts. He has 25 strikeouts with only five walks this season. Wozniak has been equally impressive with a 0.90 ERA sitting down 23 batters and giving up just three earned runs all year. His 0.90 ERA is good for fourth best nationally.  

Scouting the Seawolves (13-11, 6-2 AE):

Stony Brook is 13-11 on the year, having knocked off Manhattan, and Maine most recently. The Seawolves have their America East victories against Maine (2), UMass Lowell (2), and Binghamton (2).  

Jack Parenty leads the club with a .354 batting average, including team high's in doubles (8), triples (5), and RBI (21).

The Seawolves as a team have an ERA of 4.17. Three Seawolves have an ERA of under 3.00, with Tyler Honahan having thrown the most innings at 39.0.

All-Time Series:

The Retriever and Seawolves have met 51 times before this weekend, including 50 times in America East play. Stony Brook has owned the series of late, winning seven of the last eight. The lone Retriever victory in that stretch was back in 2013 with a 4-1 win at Alumni Field.

The Retrievers will host Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday, April 15. The Retrievers and Mountaineers will square off at Alumni Field starting at 6:00 p.m.
