Lynchburg, Va. – UMBC freshman Maria Siopacha (Limassol, Cyprus) posted a victory in her opening round singles match at the Women's ITA Atlantic Regionals held at Liberty University's Hershey/Espenshade Tennis Courts.
Siopacha dispatched Maryland's Cassandre Thebault in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4 and will face Georgetown's Victorie Saperstein in the Round of 32.
UMBC junior Mariami Dolashvili (Alushta, Ukraine) battled to win a second-set tie breaker versus VCU's Olga Barshcheuskaya, but fell 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-1.
In doubles competition, Siopacha and Dolashvili dropped an 8-4 decision to the duo of Martin/Sayer from Radford.
