(Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron), each tallied a hat trick,
while freshman Jennie
Milligan (Crofton, Md./South River) added five assists as the
Women's Lacrosse team used a 4-0 second half run to defeat Temple
11-9 in front of 319 fans at UMBC Stadium.
Semones and Bilney also added an assist each in the victory.
UMBC (4-4) also received two goals from redshirt junior
Ali Carpenter
(Baltimore, Md./McDonough/Loyola).
The Retrievers got on the board just 59 seconds into the game
when Wilson would score unassisted, however Temple (3-6), would
respond just minutes later. The two teams would trade the lead
back-and-forth until the Retrievers went on a 4-0 run over the
final 4:50 of the first half to take a 7-4 lead into the
break. The run was punctuated by goals from Bilney and Carpenter in
a span of 13-seconds in the final 18 seconds of the
half.
The Owls would rally in the second half, scoring three
straight over a 2:31 span to tie the game at seven
with 22:23 remaining. UMBC would break the tie quickly
when Wilson scored unassisted just 1:58 after Temple had
evened the score.
Milligan then assisted on the next three UMBC goals as the
Retrievers pushed the lead to 11-7 with 4:41 left. Temple
answered 51 seconds later and added another with just over two
minutes remaining to cut the deficit back to two, 11-9, but UMBC
would win the ensuing draw and run out the clock to preserve the
victory.
The Retrievers were out-shot, 20-16, by the Owls, however,
UMBC was very accurate, putting 15 of the 16 shots on net.
Redshirt sophomore goalie
Anna Barnett made five
saves and picked up a team-high three ground balls to earn the win.
Junior defender
Lexi Bristow had
a game-high four caused turnovers in the winning
effort.
Temple was carried by hat tricks from Rachel
Schwaab (Baltimore,
Md./Catonsville) and Jaymie
Tabor (Downington, Pa./Downingtown West), with Schwaab
picking up a game-high four ground balls.
UMBC finishes its brief two-game home stand on
Tuesday by welcoming Wagner to UMBC Stadium for a 3
p.m. game.
