STONY BROOK, N.Y. – UMBC women's soccer's red-shirt junior
Jessy
Brown (Plantation, Fla./American Heritage) extended the
Retrievers' win streak to four games, scoring her fifth game-winner
of the season in the 103rd minute for the 2-1 double overtime
victory in America East action versus Stony Brook on Thursday night
at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.
UMBC improves to 9-4-2 overall and 4-1-0 in America East action,
locking up in a tie for first place with Hartford, while Stony
Brook drops to 8-5-1 and 3-2-0 in league play.
The Seawolves took advantage of a UMBC defensive miscue on a
free kick from sophomore back Stella Norman, taking the 1-0
advantage in the 31st minute on a Retriever own goal. The lead
would hold heading in to the break.
Sophomore forward Alexa Quaranta
(Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) evened the contest at one in the 54th
minute with her fifth goal of the season. Quaranta received a
through ball from freshman midfielder Meg Kowalski
(Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township), one of two assists in the
contest from the rookie, and took a quick dribble around goalkeeper
Ashley Castanio before sending home the equalizer.
Sophomore back Emily Murrer hit the post 37 seconds into
overtime, but it was the only shot of the two overtime periods for
the Seawolves.
Brown struck off of a one touch pass from Kowalski and Quaranta
for the game-winner.
Senior goalkeeper Lauren Kadet
(Oakville, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) registered a season-high
seven saves in the contest, while Castanio finished with six.
UMBC returns to America East action on Sunday, Oct. 20 at UMass
Lowell. Game time is set for noon.
