Aaron Morgan stuffed the stat sheet with 13 pts., 8 rebs. and 7 assists.

BALTIMORE- Five Retrievers scored in double figures, but visiting Central Connecticut State (3-2) edged UMBC (1-3), 83-82, in overtime in a high-energy contest played at the RAC Arena.

UMBC senior guard Ryan Cook (Laurel, Md./Pallotti) posted his second douible-double of the season, scoring 20 points and adding 10 rebounds to lead the hosts.

Central sophomore guard Kyle Vinales led all scorers with 29 points.

With the game tied at 81-all, UMBC junior forward Chase Plummer (Plainfield, N.J./St. Patrick) grabbed an offensive rebound and hit one of two free throws to give the Retrievers a one-point lead with 21 seconds remaining.

With the clock winding down and Vinales near the midcourt line, Plummer was whistled for a blocking foul against the sharpshooting guard  with five seconds to play. The 2011 NEC Rookie of the Year sunk both ends of a one-and-one to give the guests the advantage.

After a time-out, UMBC freshman guard Aaron Morgan (Washington, Pa./Council Rock North) raced the length of the court, but his 24-foot three-point effort hit the front of the rim at the horn.

Morgan had his best game to date, scoring 13 points, adding eight rebounds and seven assists in 41 minutes of action.

UMBC had taken a five-point lead in extra time, breaking a 76-all tie on a field goal and ensuing free throw by Cook and two subsequent free throws by Plummer with 2:21 to play. After both teams missed on their next possessions, Vinales calmly buried a trey, and, after a Morgan turnover, stroked a mid-range jumper to tie the game at 81-all with 41 seconds to play.

Both teams started the game playing very effective offensively.  The Retrievers buried six of their first eight treys of the night and senior guard Brian Neller (Red Bank, N.J./Christian Bros. Academy) knocked down a trifecta which gave the hosts their largest lead of the night at 30-21 just beyond the midpoint of the first half.

Central would rally and took a 40-39 lead into the break.

The second half featured six ties and eight lead changes, although UMBC did not trail from the 14:36 mark until Vinales hit two free throws to knot the score at 70-all with 3:46 remaining. Central took  a 75-73 lead on a Matt Hunter layup with 19 seconds left, but Morgan sent the game to overtime by hitting two attempts from the stripe with five seconds left.

Five players from each team scored in double figures. In addition to Cook and Morgan's exploits, Neller scored 12 points, senior forward Adrian Satchell (Windsor, Conn/Windsor) scored 10 and Plummer posted 10 points and 10 caroms.

Hunter, who hit 11 field goals to match his teammate Vinales, scored 22 points for the Blue Devils.

UMBC outrebounded the Blue Devils, 49-37, but the visitors outscored the Retrievers in the paint, 44-30.

The Retrievers hit a season-best 10 (of 22) three-point field goals, but were hurt badly by 10 missed free throws (14-of-24) on the evening.

UMBC faces national power Marquette in Milwaukee on Mon., Nov. 26.
