West Hartford, Conn.—Binghamton University set a
tournament record with 17 three-point field goals and defeated
UMBC, 91-65, in the first round of the America East Conference
Championship.
In their final games as Retrievers, Justin Fry, Laurence
Jolicoeur and Travis King were
the lone Retriever in double figures with 13, 11 and 10 points
respectively.
Binghamton's Greer Wright scored 31 points, while Moussa Camara
made eight treys in a 30-point effort.
The Bearcats hit their first six shots from behind the arc and
took a quick 23-6 advantage with 13:23 to play in the first half.
Binghamton kept pouring it on from long distance and broke a
conference for a first round game in the first 20 minutes, hitting
13 (of 23) trifectas. UMBC cut a 21-point deficit to 35-22 on a Brian Neller
three-pointer with 5:53 to play, but the Bearcats finished the half
on a 17-7 run to lead 52-29 at the break.
UMBC started the second half on 5-0 run, but Binghamton scored
10 of the next 12 points and led 62-36 lead with 15:32 to play.
The 17 three-pointers by the Bearcats were the most ever allowed
by a UMBC team.
UMBC dropped its final six games of the campaign to finish the
year at 5-25.
