BALTIMORE—The UMBC men's and women's
swimming and diving teams won 27 out of 32 events on Senior and
Alumni Day as they defeated Marist in their final home meet of the
season Saturday. The men (7-1) won 161-117, while the women (5-3)
defeated the Red Foxes, 166-123.
Seniors Sarah Ryan (Rockville Centre,
N.Y./Oceanside) and Eric
Jones (Gambrills, Md./Arundel) each won two
events in their final home meets, with Ryan sweeping the 100- and
200-yard butterfly, while Jones won the 200 and 500 free.
Junior Abbey McKenney (Wilmington,
Del./Brandywine) won the 50 and 100 free events.
Other seniors who won included Rebecca
Godwin (Catonsville, Md./Notre Dame Prep) in the
women's 1,000 free, Amanda
Shinholser (Burtonsville, Md./Springbrook) in the
women's 1-meter diving, Phillip
Novotny (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) in the
men's 100 breast and Brad
Reitz (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) in the 200
IM.
Seniors Danielle Cruz (Catonsville,
Md./Western Tech) and Keilan
Freeman (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/Argyll Centre)
were part of the first place men's and women's 200 free relays,
respectively.
Seven other seniors were recognized before the meet,
including Julie Cantwell (Sinking
Spring, Pa./Wilson), Mat
Carson (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Silverthorn
Collegiate Institute),Kregg
Deery (Ormond Beach, Fla./Spruce
Creek), Mitchell
Donovan (Ellicott City,
Md./Centennial), Gaby Johnston (Windsor,
Conn./Loomis Chaffee School), Dan
Weston-Dawkes (Ellicott City, Md./Wilde Lake)
and Erin Wohlers (Baldwinsville,
N.Y./Charles W. Baker).
The Retrievers return to action next Saturday when they face
William and Mary and Delaware in Newark, Del.
