Hartford, Conn,- Connecticut guard Kemba Walker, the nation's leading scorer, posted a triple-double with 24 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists as the ninth-ranked Huskies (7-0) defeated UMBC, 94-61, in the first meeting between the two schools.

UMBC grad student guard Travis King scored in double figures for the seventh consecutive game for the Retrievers, leading the visitors with 14 points.

The Huskies hit 33 of 59 shots from the floor (56 percent) and 12 of 23 (52 percent) from behind the arc.

The Huskies bounded out to an 11-2 lead, but the Retrievers would whittle the deficit to 21-18 on a Fry layup with 10:29 to play in the half. UMBC scrapped for 14 offensive boards in the first 20 minutes and took 17 more shots than U. Conn did in the first half, but converted only 13 field goals (31.7 percent). UMBC was within 37-30 after a Justin Fry jumper with 3:42 to play, but the Huskies finished the half on a 7-2 run and led 44-32 at the break.

The hosts hit 3-of-3 from behind arc to open second half on 13-3 run and surge ahead, 57-35, at 17:33 mark. U.Conn hit 15 of their first 21 shots from the field in the second half.

UMBC junior guard Chris De La Rosa scored 13 points and added five assists in the contest. Forward Laurence Jolicoeur and wing Brian Neller added nine points each, as Neller hit three of eight shots from behind the arc.

The Retrievers hit only 32.4 percent from the floor, converting just 23 of 71 shots from the field.

UMBC (0-7) returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 3 when they take on Rider in Lawrenceville, N.J. at 7:30 p.m.
