BINGHAMTON SHUTS OUT UMBC WOMEN'S SOCCER, 2-0

, Md. – Freshman Kim Povill scored two goals to lead Binghamton (8-2-1, 2-1-0) to a 2-0 shutout of UMBC (4-7-0, 0-3-0) in an America East contest this afternoon at the UMBC Soccer Stadium.

Povill's first goal came in the eight minute after the Bearcats were awarded a corner kick. Junior Kelly Sanders served the ball to teammate Caitlin O'Shaughnessy on the left side, who in turn passed it right to Povill for the score. The only other goal of the game was scored at 33:17 after UMBC goalie Robin Babaris (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Sir Oliver Mowat) came outside the box, but was unable to retrieve the ball. Povill then got control and ran in for the easy score.

The Retrievers came out more aggressive in the second half, outshooting the Bearcats, 6-4, but were unable to convert. UMBC's best chances came when freshman J.J. Young (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) missed just wide of the goal, and during a corner opportunity, when junior Kelly Fiorani's (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) header went over the post.

For the game, Binghamton outshot UMBC, 10-8, and had more corners, 9-3. Babaris made six saves for the Retrievers, while Kristie Bowers stopped four for the visitors.

UMBC's next game will be on Sunday, October 10 at 1 p.m. when they host non-conference foe Pittsburgh at the UMBC Soccer Stadium.
