Smithfield, RI. – The UMBC Baseball team fell to Bryant, 4-3, at the bottom of the ninth inning on Sunday afternoon.
The Bryant Bulldogs led the game, 2-0, until the seventh inning when Jessiah Carpenter had a bases loaded walk to put UMBC on the board. Dylan Melton followed it up with a single up the middle to score Brooks Henderson and Derek Paris to take a 3-2 lead. Bryant would walk it off in the bottom of the ninth to avoid being swept.
Danny Orr had two hits and Anthony Mascuilli also had a hit for the Retrievers.
Sergio Droz threw six innings with five strikeouts and two earned runs. Bennett Speicher came in relief for Droz and recorded three strikeouts with one earned run.
UMBC will travel to Towson on Tuesday for the final midweek contest of the season. First pitch is set for 3 pm.
