Towson, Md. --
Nico Ong hit his first homer of the season, but the UMBC Baseball team fell to Towson, 9-8, on Tuesday after a two-out walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth.
Dylan Melton singled and scored on an error in the first, but Towson (21-30) responded with a three-run homer in the bottom of the inning to go up 3-1. The leads was 4-1 in the fourth when
Jesiah Carpenter drove in a run on a grounder,
Joe Lomangino ripped an RBI single and Ong followed with a three run blast to put UMBC (25-22) up 6-4. Henderson added a sacrifice fly in the seventh and Okojie made it 8-5 in the ninth with an RBI single, but the tigers loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth and walked-it off on a 3-2 pitch.
Aidan Boice had the best performance of his career, entering int he second inning and tossing 6.0 innings, allowing just two runs on five hits with five strikeouts and a walk. Ong and
Danny Orr wach had two-hit games for the Retrievers, while Carpenter,
Anthony Mascuilli and
Derek Paris also added hits.Â
UMBC will close out the regular season by hosting NJIT for a three-ga,e series beginning on Thursday at 6 p.m. Senior Day festivities will be prior to Saturday's 1 p.m. finale.Â
