Demato, Sharpe, Steers Earn Weekly Honors

BOSTON - After leading UMBC to a 16-11 victory over NJIT, clinching a spot in the America East playoffs, Alex Steers, Ryan Demato, and Dylan Sharpe all earned America East weekly honors. 

Demato was named Offensive Player of the Week, Sharpe was named Defensive Player of the Week, and Steers was named Face-off Midfielder of the Week. 

Demato continued his breakout season, scoring five goals and handing out an assist in the win to earn his first career America East weekly honor. Demato has scored multiple goals in nine straight games and has tallied six points in back-to-back contests. The junior has 29 goals and nine assists in 11 games this season. 

Sharpe caused a career-high five turnovers, adding four ground balls in the victory. In nine games this season, Sharpe has caused 13 turnovers, picked up 22 ground balls, and scored a goal. 

Steers won 18-of-23 face-offs, picking up a game-high and season-high 11 ground balls. He also scored his first career goal in the victory. For the year, Steers has won 122 face-offs and 58.4 percent of his tries at the X this season.

UMBC concludes the regular season in a neutral-site contest versus Bucknell on Friday.
