Lexington, Va. -- The 200 Medley and 800 Freestyle Relay teams won gold and
Anders Logas and
Kaleb Cave medaled in the 3 Meter Dive as the UMBC Men's Swimming & Diving team opened the America East Championships in style on Wednesday night at VMI.
The 800 Free Relay team of
Matthew So,
Braden Weise,
Tyler Kay and
Andrew McEachern smashed the competition by over four seconds, touching the wall in 6:29.27 to earn gold and break the oldest UMBC record (set in 2014) by over a second.
The 200 Medley Relay team of
Quinn Marchionini,
Sean Neils,
Stefano Perez and
Axel Mori took gold in 1:26.85 to best the competition by over 1.5 seconds.
Logas used an NCAA Zone cut score of 324.35 to earn silver and Cave took bronze with a score of 310.20.
Aidan O'Callaghan scored points for the Retrievers as he finished seventh with a score of 2.51.55.
After day one, UMBC sits in first place with a score of 125.
The America East Championships continue on Thursday at 10 a.m.
