Women's Basketball Rallies for Overtime Win Against UAlbany

BALTIMORE – The UMBC Women's Basketball team held visiting UAlbany scoreless for the final 8:22 in a 55-46 overtime win on Saturday afternoon.

The Retrievers trailed 46-41 after a Great Danes layup with 3:22 left, but would not allow a point the rest of the way, including overtime. 

 

Tiara Bellamy and Heidi Williams led the way for the Retrievers with 14 pts. Heidi Williams also had 10 rebounds for a double-double. Jade Tillman contributed 13 pts, nine rebounds, and four assists.

 

Alaina Williams had a career high four steals, while contributing eight points and five rebounds. 

 

UMBC led the way at the end of the first quarter, 12-11, with Bellamy scoring half of UMBC's first quarter points. The Great Danes would answer back in the second quarter holding the Retrievers to eight points to lead 25-20 heading into the second half. The Retrievers would claw their way back in the second half outscoring the Great Danes 26-21 to head into overtime tied at 46. 

 

The Retrievers went 22-27 at the free throw line. UMBC scored nine points in overtime, seven points coming from the free throw line, to seal their sixth conference win. 

 

The Retrievers travel to Binghamton to face the Bearcats for a 6 pm game on Feb. 5.
