BALTIMORE –
Brady Geho scored just thirty-eight seconds into the match, and the host UMBC men's soccer team went on to a 1-0 victory against the Howard Bison at Retriever Soccer Park on Monday evening to remain undefeated at 4-0.
The victory earned the Retrievers the 2025 UMBC/Navy Invitational title, as the Dawgs also defeated Niagara, while Navy and Howard (0-3-1) played to a draw on Friday evening.
Geho was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament after finishing with three goals and an assist.
The only marker of the game originated from a long goal kick from senior keeper
Emigdio Tormo Lopez. Lopez sent a laser that reached the head of junior forward
Ryan Calheira near Howard's 40-yard line. Calheira managed to leap into the air and direct a beautiful header ten yards up the field for Geho, who ran onto the loose ball after outracing a defender. The junior striker settled the pass at the top of the right side of the box, took a dribble, and then struck a low shot that just eluded Bison goalkeeper Liam Keiller and nestled inside the left post.
UMBC completely dominated the contest, firing 22 shots compared to just four by the visitors.
The Retrievers created all kinds of scoring opportunities but were unable to give themselves any breathing room all evening.
Geho had several chances to add to his goal total but just misfired on a couple of opportunities from point-blank range.
Howard had one quality opportunity with 35:50 remaining in the contest when forward Daniil Kaban received a through ball near the right sideline on UMBC's end of the field. Tormo Lopez was 25 yards off his line and managed to deflect Kaban's shot with an open net behind him.
Calheira had a goal taken away from him with 28:42 remaining after he was whistled for being offside after receiving a pass from
Andres Javitt inside the box.
UMBC travels to William & Mary on Saturday afternoon.
