Men's Lacrosse Set for America East Semifinal Showdown Against UAlbany on Thursday Evening

AMERICA EAST TOURNAMENT HISTORY
  • UMBC is seeking their fifth America East Tournament Championship since joining the league in 2004. The Retrievers have won the regular season title three times and have been co-regular season champions two other times including 2025.
  • UMBC is 13-11 overall in AE Tournament competition. The Dawgs are 9-7 in the AE semifinals and are 4-4 the AE finals.
  • The Retrievers are 2-7 against UAlbany in the AE Tournament and have lost five straight times.

HEAD COACH RYAN MORAN
  • Ryan Moran was named the America East Coach of the Year in 2025 for the second time in his nine-year career at the helm of the Retrievers.
  • Moran led UMBC to the 2019 NCAA Tournament after they defeated Vermont in the AE championship game. The Retrievers defeated Marist in the opening round that season.
  • Moran has a 57-52 (.519) career record in Baltimore.
POSTSEASON HONORS
  • A total of seven UMBC men's lacrosse players earned America East postseason conference honors, it was announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. Junior Connor McMahon (Stevensville, Md./) was named the Goalkeeper of the Year and earned First Team All-Conference accolades, while head coach Ryan Moran was selected by his peers as Coach of the Year.
  • Senior attackman Jordan Galloway (Grasonville, Md./Dematha) joined McMahon on the First Team while junior defender Dante Marinello (Watchung, N.J./Morristown Beard School), senior midfielder Trey Fleece (Glenwood, Md./Archbishop Spalding), and senior faceoff specialist Alex Steers (Westminster, Md./Westminster) were named to the Second Team.  Freshmen midfielders Xander Maxwell (Edmonton, Alberta) and Jameson Coffman (Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spalding) received All-Rookie Team honors. In addition, Steers and Marinello were named to the All-Academic Team.
  • McMahon, who took over the starting goaltending reigns this season, has enjoyed a terrific season in the cage. He currently leads the America East with a 9.67 goals against average (20th in NCAA) and is fifth with a .484 saves percentage. The conference introduced the Goalkeeper of the Year award this season. 
  • Galloway, a Second Team pick in 2023 and 2024, is currently fifth on the circuit in points per game (3.27) and is sixth in goals per game (1.73). The tri-captain has scored 75 career goals to go along with 36 assists. Marinello is seventh in the league in caused turnovers per game (1.18) and has added 19 ground balls. Fleece is seventh in the conference in ground balls per game (4.09) and has contributed ten caused turnovers. Steers is currently third in the league in faceoff percentage (.583) and is also fifth in ground balls per game (4.91). His 1254 faceoff wins is currently the 18th-most in program history and needs six more to move into the top-15.
  • Maxwell and Coffman have proven to be key contributors in their initial season in the black and gold. Maxwell started seven games and scored 10 goals, along with nine assists. He recorded his first career hat trick at national-ranked Richmond in March. Coffman picked up 11 ground balls and recorded four points in his nine appearances.
  • Marinello is a Financial Economics major with a 3.89 grade point average, while Steers maintains a 4.00 in Business Technology/Administration.
HE DID IT THE GALLO-WAY
  • Senior Jordan Galloway picked up his first America East First Team selection after being selected to the Second Team the past two seasons. In 2022, he became the first AE Rookie of the Year since Pat Young earned the honor in 2013 and just the third since the program joined the conference in the spring of 2004.
  • Galloway has produced 111 career points (75 goals, 36 assists) in 50 career games. He is currently tied for 30th on UMBC's all-time points list.
 A COMEBACK FOR THE AGES
  • Junior Tyler Barnett's goal with 1:11 remaining in overtime capped an incredible 13-12 comeback win for the UMBC men's lacrosse team against the UAlbany Great Danes on March 2.
  • Junior attackman Connor Chick scored a career-high five goals, including three straight, to bring UMBC within 12-11 with 3:36 remaining in the fourth quarter. Senior midfielder Jordan Galloway contributed two goals and three assists.
  • Barnett came off the bench to factor in UMBC's final three goals, including the game-winner. The senior attackman set up Chick's final goal and then scored the equalizer off an assist from Galloway with 1:43 left in regulation. Barnett added a man-down goal early in the fourth quarter to bring the Dawgs within 11-7 with 12:02 left.
  • The Dawgs trailed 12-7 after Silas Richmond's goal with 11:02 left in the fourth quarter. Galloway answered off sophomore midfielder Corey Myers's assist to ignite a 6-0 run.
  • UAlbany scored the game's first five goals and led 8-4 at halftime.
  • UMBC outshot UAlbany by a 40-29 margin and forced 19 turnovers.
  • Junior goalie Connor McMahon made nine saves in 62:49 of action.
  • Senior Trey Fleece picked up a team-high seven ground balls, and junior Alex Steers won 16-of-27 face-offs and added five ground balls.
ABOUT THE GREAT DANES
  • Ryan Doherty has been UAlbany's primary finisher, leading the team with 38 goals through 15 games. He is averaging 2.53 goals per game and has chipped in 12 assists for a total of 50 points this season.
  • Silas Richmond continues to drive the offense, pacing the team with 73 points on 33 goals and a team-high 40 assists. He ranks first in the America East with an average of 4.87 points per game and has posted multiple points in every appearance this year.
  • Koleton Marquis ranks third for the Great Danes with 21 goals and 6 assists, while Jackson Palumb has added 18 goals and 2 assists. Daniel Kesselring and Alex Pfeiffer have each contributed 13 goals apiece to balance the scoring attack.
  • On the defensive side, Max Neeson leads UAlbany with 21 caused turnovers. He has also recorded four goals with the long pole and collected 39 ground balls, tying for second on the team.
  • Cade Galko tops the squad in ground balls with 41, continuing to be a steady presence between the lines.
  • Jacob Smith has enjoyed a standout sophomore season, tallying four goals, 39 ground balls, and 17 caused turnovers, which ranks second on the team behind Neeson.
  • In net, Brady Smith has started 13 games and logged 690 minutes, making 119 saves. He holds an 11.73 goals-against average and a .469 save percentage for the season.
