Lowell, Mass. -- The UMBC Baseball team nearly rallied from a late five-run deficit, before dropping a 7-6 decision in the series finale at UMass Lowell on Sunday.
The Retrievers had the bases loaded and one out in the top of the ninth, but a liner was snagged and the runner at second was doubled off to end it.
UMBC took a 2-1 lead in the fifth on a
Kyle Eddington RBI single followed by a sacrifice fly from
Jesiah Carpenter. The River Hawks scored the next six runs, but UMBC cut it to 7-5 on a
Leewood Molessa three-run double with two outs in the seventh.
Anthony Mascuilli had an RBI double in the top of the ninth to cut it to 7-6.
The Retrievers host Towson on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
