BALTIMORE --
Derek Paris hit a grand slam to break a 1-1 deadlock in the fourth inning as the UMBC Baseball team cruised to an 11-1, seven inning, victory over visiting Towson on Tuesday night.
After Towson took a 1-0 lead in the first on a wind-aided solo homer, UMBC tied the game in the third when
Sergio Droz scored on a wild pitch, and then took the lead for good the following inning on Paris' slam. Paris would make it 6-1 in the fifth on a sacrifice fly that scored
Leewood Molessa. Molessa made it 7-1 in the sixth on an RBI single, and that was immediately followed by a two-run blast by
Danny Orr. The game ended when Droz hit a two-run homer, the first long ball of his career, to end the game via run-rule with no outs in the seventh.Â
Aidan Denham pitched two scoreless innings out of the bullpen to pick up his first career victory.
Chris Ho,
Zach Kelly and Matt Cuninngham also made scoreless appearances on the mound for the Dawgs.
Molessa went 3-for-4, while Orr and
Danny Wyatt each had two-hit games.
Jesiah Carpenter and
Anthony Mascuilli also had hits for the Retrievers.
UMBC travels to Maine for a three-game series this weekend.
