BALTIMORE -- Freshman
Danny Orr capped a 4-for-5 day at the plate with a ninth-inning walk-off double to give the UMBC Baseball team an 8-7 victory over visiting Georgetown on Friday evening at Alumni Field.
Orr also drove in three runs and scored twice, while
Leewood Molessa went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
Nick Remy got the victory out of the bullpen to improve to 3-0 on the season.
The Retrievers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on Orr's RBI single up the middle, but the Hoyas would score a run in each the second and third to take a 2-1 lead.
UMBC put up five runs in the bottom of the third on a Molessa two-run single, back-to-back RBI doubles from Orr and
Danny Wyatt and an RBI single from
Derek Paris. A
Kyle Eddington sacrifice fly in the fifth pushed the lead to 7-2, before the guests scored twice in the seventh and three times in the eighth to tie it up.
In the bottom of the ninth,
Anthony Mascuilli reached on a one out error and moved to second on a Molessa single. Orr then ended the game when he sent a full count offering high off the wall in right center.
Logan Wiley got the start on the mound and allowed just two runs and struck out three in 4.2 innings of work, before
Emmett Tolis worked the next 2.1 innings, also striking out three while allowing just two runs.
The series now shifts to Capital One Park in Tysons, Virginia. Saturday first pitch is at 3 p.m., with the series wrapping up at 1 p.m. on Sunday
