Danny Orr all blasted solo homers, but the UMBC Baseball dropped an 8-4 decision at NJIT on Saturday.
Carpenter homered on the first pitch of the game, while Best and Orr also hit solo homers later in the contest.
Nico Ong added an RBI single in the eighth.
Anthony Mascuilli and
Danny Wyatt also had hits for the Dawgs, with Mascuilli walking twice. Carpenter also stole a base, while
Eddie Sargent allowed just one unearned run in five innings of relief.
The Retrievers and Highlanders wrap the series on Sunday at 11 a.m.
