Women’s Basketball Falls at Regular Season Champion UAlbany, 68-60

ALBANY, NY – Jaden Walker led the offense with 17 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals but the Retrievers couldn't complete the comeback at regular season champion UAlbany on Thursday evening. The Retrievers tied it up in the fourth quarter but dropped 68-60.


Talia Davis contributed nine points and seven rebounds while Carmen Yánez had nine points and six assists. Jaliena Sanchez had eight points and two steals. Tiara Bellamy had seven points and two assists and Lauren Thompson drained two threes off the bench. 

 

How it Happened:

  • UAlbany scored first with a pull up before Davis made a layup to start the game.
  • Both teams exchanged buckets before Lauren Thompson made the first three of the game to end the first quarter, 17-13 UAlbany.
  • UAlbany opened the second quarter with a driving layup and the Retrievers went on a mini run after strong second quarter defense to cut the lead within two, 23-21 UAlbany.
  • The Great Danes ended the first half with a driving layup, 29-23 UAlbany.
  • Walker opened the second half with a layup and both teams had a high scoring quarter but the Retrievers trailed 50-43 at the end of the third.
  • Walker opened the fourth quarter making both free throws and the Retrievers tied the game 55-55 after Sanchez made both free throws with 4:38 left.
  • The Great Danes would put the game away, 68-60.
 

The Retrievers will finish the regular season at Vermont on Saturday at 2pm on ESPN+.
