Towson, Md. -- Freshman
Danny Orr went 3-for-4 with an RBI,
Leewood Molessa doubled in his first at-bat in nearly a year and
Emmett Tolis struck out five in 2.2 perfect innings of work to lead the visiting UMBC Baseball team to a 5-4 win over Towson on Wednesday afternoon.
How It Happened:
- After Towson scored an unearned run in the first to go up 1-0, Molessa doubled off the wall to leadoff the top of the second
- Orr then reached on an error and Molessa would score on a one-out RBI double from Derek Paris
- Luke Buscaglia then drove in Orr with an RBI groundout to give the Dawgs the lead for good.
- Kyle Eddington and Jesiah Carpenter then worked back-to-back walks before a Nico Ong single plated two to make it a 4-1 game
- The Tigers would score another unearned run in the third to make it 4-2
- Tolis entered in the fourth and retired all eight batters he faced before Ayden Gonzalez relieved him and got a ground out to keep it 4-2 after six
- The hosts finally got a run back in the bottom of the seventh on a one-out single followed by a triple to make it 4-3
- Matt Cunningham was called in from the bullpen and got a pair of strikeouts to keep the Dawgs up one
- In the top of the eighth, Wyat reached on an error, stole second and scored on an Orr RBI single to make it 5-3
- A hit-by-pitch, a single and two wild pitches plated a run for Towson in the bottom of the eighth, but Cunningham again got a strikeout to strand the tying run at third
- Nick Remy came in to close the game out and worked around a two-out double to complete the save
The Retrievers host Cornell for a three game series beginning with a noon Saturday doubleheader (two, nine inning games), followed by a game at noon on Sunday
