Lowell, MA – The UMBC men's basketball team dropped a 98-79 decision against the UMass Lowell River Hawks in their final regular-season road game.
Senior guard
Bryce Johnson paced the Retrievers (12-16, 4-9 America East) with 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting, and added a team-high three steals. Junior forward
Louie Jordan went 5-of-6 from behind the arc and contributed 15 points, while graduate student forward
Josh Odunowo added 12 points and made all six field goal attempts.
The River Hawks led from wire to wire and built a 52-44 advantage at halftime.
UMBC was within 54-48 at the 18-minute mark after a dunk by Odunowo, but UMass Lowell scored six straight to extend their lead to 60-48 just fifty-six seconds later.
Senior guard
Marcus Banks Jr.'s jumper with 14:38 left brought the Retrievers within single digits at 67-59, but that was as close as the visitors could get the rest of the way.
The hosts led by as many as 24 points on two different occasions.
Forward Max Brooks led five players in double-figures for the hosts with a game-high 30 points on 13-of-16 shooting. Forward Quinton Mincey recorded a double-double of 24 points and 10 rebounds, while guard Martin Sommerville (18 points, 13 assists) also had a double-double.
UMass Lowell (16-11, 5-7 AE) shot a sizzling 63.8 percent (37-of-58) overall from the floor and went 11-of-20 (55 percent) from long distance.
UMBC will host NJIT on Saturday at noon.
