Women's Basketball Leads Wire-to-Wire for Senior Day Victory Over Bryant

BALTIMORE -- The UMBC Women's Basketball team took down the visiting Bryant Bulldogs, 75-67, on senior night Saturday at The Peake.

The team honored seniors Yasmin Ott, Jaliena Sanchez, Riley Donahue, Jordon Lewis, Talia Davis, and Jaden Walker before the game.


Walker set a career high 21 points and had five rebounds, and two assists. Lewis had 19 points and six rebounds. Carmen Yánez had 10 points going 3-3 from the three-point line. Davis contributed eight points, four rebounds, and two assists in the victory. 

How it Happened:
  • Lewis opened the game with a layup before Bryant made one right after, but the Retrievers went on a 12-0 run, 16-4 UMBC.
  • UMBC had a strong first quarter and took a 21-8 lead
  • Bryant opened the second quarter making both free throws but the Retrievers made three straight three's to end the half, 47-32 UMBC.
  • Lewis (17) and Walker (15) combined to equal Bryant's entire team total by the half.
  • Walker opened the third quarter with a layup to make 17 points which set her career high to beat her previous best 16, 51-34 UMBC.
  • Bryant went on a mini run, but UMBC pulled back ahead by double digits and still led 67-54 at the end of the third quarter.
  • Ott opened the fourth quarter with a jumper but Bryant went on a 13-0 run over the next eight minutes to cut the lead within two, at 69-67 with just under two minutes left
  • Davis would immediately drill a huge three pointer with 1:42 left to extend the lead back to five and put the game away
The Retrievers are back at The Peake next Thursday for their final regular season conference game as they host UMass Lowell for the pink game at 6:30 pm.
