BALTIMORE -- The UMBC Volleyball team dropped the first two sets and found itself down 24-22 in the third set before mounting an incredible rally to defeat visiting Bryant in five sets (15-25, 15-25, 27-25, 25-21, 15-4) on Sunday afternoon at The Peake.
After the comeback in the third set, the Retrievers cruised the rest of the way, including opening the fifth by scoring the first 11 points of the set.
Jalynn Brown had a match-high 18 kills and added 11 digs, while
Claudia Llamas continued her stellar play by adding 13 kills, six blocks and four digs.
Jada James came off the bench in the second set and finished with a 10 kill and 13 dig double-double.
Laura Fuehrer had nine blocks and five kills, it is the fourth time this season that she has recorded at least nine blocks.
Izzy Ostvig added 21 assists and 12 digs, while fellow setter
Serin Maden had 27 assists and four aces, and was the server during the decisive 11-0 run to start the fifth set.
Hannah Howard added 21 digs and three assists and
Helen Frankovich tallied four kills on .500 hitting with four blocks.
UMBC steps out of conference play to travel to Howard on Wednesday before hitting the road again to face New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon.
