Women's Basketball Rallies for 49-46 Win at Bryant

Smithfield, R.I. -- Jaliena Sanchez had the game-winning layup with 31 seconds as the UMBC Women's Basketball team rallied for a 49-46 win at Bryant on Thursday night.

Jordon Lewis led the offense for the Retrievers with 10 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two blocks. Jaden Walker had nine points and six rebounds, and two steals.
Alaina Williams added six points, seven rebounds, and two steals. 

How it Happened:
  • Lewis opened the game with a layup and made her free throw but Bryant responded with a 9-0 before Lewis made a three, 11-6 Bryant.
  • Both teams exchanged buckets at the end of the first quarter, 14-13 Bryant. 
  • Bryant opened the second quarter with a layup before Williams made a layup but Bryant outshot UMBC 13-8, 27-21 Bryant.
  • Bryant opened the second half making both free throws but UMBC went on a 8-0 run to tie the game at 29-29.
  • The Retrievers outscored Bryant in the third quarter 15-12 but trailed 39-36 going into the fourth quarter.
  • Bryant made both free throws to start the fourth quarter but Talia Davis made a three to keep the Retrievers within range, 41-39 Bryant.
  • Walker made a layup to tie the game at 43-43 before Lauren Thompson gave UMBC the lead with 1:03 left, 46-45 UMBC.
  • Sanchez ended the game with a driving layup, a steal and made a free throw late before the hosts missed a tying three at the buzzer to seal the comeback win.

The Retrievers head to UMass Lowell on Saturday for a 1pm game streamed on ESPN+.
