Davis Pours in 18 at Maine on Saturday

Orono, ME. -- Talia Davis led the Retrievers with a career high 18 points and Jaden Walker set a career high six assists to go with seven points and seven rebounds, but the UMBC Women's Basketball team dropped a 61-47 contest at defending America East champion Maine on Saturday afternoon. 

Lauren Thompson contributed nine points while Jordon Lewis added six points and six rebounds.

How it Happened:
  • Maine started the game with a layup before Jordon Lewis made a jumper.
  • Talia Davis drained the first three of the game but Maine responded with five points, 9-5 Maine.
  • Maine went on a 12-0 run to make it 21-7 Maine at the end of the first quarter.
  • Carmen Yánez opened the second quarter with a three and both teams exchanged buckets before the Retrievers went on a 10-0 run to cut the lead by six, 31-25 Maine.
  • The Retrievers ended a strong second quarter outscoring the Black Bears 20-12, but still trailed Maine 33-27
  • Maine opened the second half with a three and went on a 11-0 run before Jaden Walker made a layup, 44-29 Maine. 
  • The Black Bears had a dominant third quarter holding the Retrievers to six points, 51-33 Maine.
  • Lauren Thompson opened the fourth quarter with a three but Maine put the game away, 61-47.

The Retrievers return home for Midday Madness on Thursday Jan. 23 at 11 a.m. against UAlbany.
