Newark, N.J. -- The UMBC Volleyball team began America East play with a four set win at NJIT (25-19, 25-21, 20-25, 25-23) on Sunday afternoon.
Mia Bilusic once again led the way, finishing with 21 kills on .280 hitting, four blocks and a team-high 14 digs en route to her second double-double of the season.
Hannah Dobbs continued her stellar freshman campaign with 15 kills, while classmate
Izzy Ostvig had career highs in assists (31) and blocks (four).
Mila Ilieva, who had the winning kill in the fourth set, tallied a game-best five blocks to go along with her five kills. Fellow middle
Abby Erickson also had five kills to go with four blocks.
Freshman
Jada James had a match-high four aces, while
Hannah Howard,
Serin Maden and Ayisa Miller all added a pair of aces.
Maden had a double-double of her own, tallying 13 assists and 10 digs, while Howard and Miller added 13 digs and 11 digs, respectively.
Helen Frankovich had five kills and a block in the winning effort.
The Retrievers return to The Peake for a pair of America East matches next weekend. They host Binghamton on Friday night, before welcoming UAlbany for a Sunday afternoon tilt.
