Justin Taylor went 4-for-6 with a grand slam, six RBI and three runs scored, but the UMBC Baseball team dropped a 13-12 heartbreaker at Maryland on Wednesday night.
The Retrievers trailed 7-0 in the second, they rallied and eventually took a 12-8 lead in the seventh on Taylor's slam, but the hists scored two in the eighth and three in the ninth for the walk-off win.
Matt Ryan also had a three-run homer for the Dawgs, while
Anthony Swenda drove in a pair and
Nico Ong added an RBI.
Eddie Sargent pitched 3.1 scoreless innings in relief, retiring the final nine batters he faced, striking out three.
Zach Kelly also had a scoreless inning of work with a strikeout.
Dawson Baracani went 2-for-4 with three runs scored,
Matthew Best had a hit and scored two runs and
Luke Trythall came off the bench to smack a double and score two runs.
UMBC has a bye weekend before returning to action next Wednesday at home with a rematch against Maryland. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. at Alumni Field
