Men's Lacrosse Hosts NJIT on Senior Day

RETRIEVER RECAP
  • Junior attackman Jordan Galloway recorded his fourth hat trick of the season, but the visiting UMBC men's lacrosse team fell at Binghamton, 21-10, in an America East Conference contest last Saturday afternoon at Bearcats Sports Complex.Galloway, who has 22 tallies on the season, scored all three goals in the third quarter.
  • Senior attacker Allen Hockenberry added two goals and an assist, while classmate Mike Doughty contributed a goal and a team-high three assists. Doughty now has a league-high 31 assists on the season and has distributed multiple helpers in five straight contests.
  • Senior Jayson Tingue played all sixty minutes in the cage and made 11 saves.

DAWG BITES
  • Doughty has produced multiple-assist games in eight of UMBC's nine outings and is ranked 3rd nationally and first in the AE with 3.44 assists per game. Doughty hit the 100-point mark (42-68-110, 32nd program history) and became UMBC's first player to reach 50 helpers since Max Maxwell (66 career assists) achieved the mark in 2016. Doughty is currently first in the league with 4.33 points per game. He needs five more helpers to move into UMBC's all-time Top-10 list in the category.
  • Senior attacker Brian Tregoning is third in the America East with 3.78 points per game and is third on  the circuit with 2.78 goals per game. He had back-to-back eight-point efforts recently versus Merrimack and UAlbany. Tregoning is 24th in the nation in goals per game.
  • Senior face-off specialist Zach Dudley, who is seventh in the league with a .550 face-off percentage, became the sixth Retriever to reach the 300-win plateau earlier this season and has compiled 358 career draws. He's also fourth on the circuit with 6.57 ground balls per game and is 18th in the country.
  • Tingue is third the AE in goals against average (11.78), and his 9.92 career goals against average ranks fourth among all active NCAA goalies.
  • UMBC is eighth in the NCAA with 8.44 assists per game and is 18th with a .423 man-up clip.
  • The Retrievers will honor 16 seniors prior to the contest at 11:33 a.m.
 A LOOK AT THE HIGHLANDERS
  • NJIT opened the season with seven straight wins but have dropped all five of their America East contests.
  • The Highlanders lost to UAlbany, 14-9, last Saturday in Newark, New Jersey. Garrett Muscatella and Benjamin Roberts each scored a pair of goals. Liam Brown made 15 saves in the cage.
  • Muscatella is ninth in the league with 2.17 goals per game and is sixth in assists per game (1.33). He's also fifth with 3.50 points per game.
  • Brown leads the AE with a 11.17 goals against average and is second in saves percentage (.525).
  • Billy Kroeger is averaging a league-high 8.92 ground balls per game and is second in the league with a .586 face-off percentage.
  • Hank Bethel is second on the circuit with 2.33 caused turnovers per game.
SERIES NOTES
  • UMBC is 3-0 all-time in the series.
  • Last season, the Retrievers defeated NJIT, 12-10, at UMBC Stadium. The game was deadlocked at 10-10 but Taylor Bohanan scored two goals in the final 6:17 to deliver UMBC the victory. Tingue made 11 saves while Brown recorded 14 for the Highlanders. Doughty recorded two goals, two assists and four ground balls in the contest.

  • UMBC will travel to Vermont for the regular-season finale next Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
