BALTIMORE -- The UMBC Baseball team extended its winning-streak to five on Wednesday as it knocked-off BIG EAST leader Georgetown, 10-6, at Alumni Field.
Matt Ryan homered for the second straight contest and drove in a pair, while
Nico Ong and
Justin Taylor also had two RBI.
Joshua Rivera worked a scoreless inning of relief to pick up his first win of the season after
Eddie Sargent struck out five in two scoreless innings of work to start the game.
How It Happened:
- UMBC (15-15, 6-3 AE) broke open the scoring in the second when Ong hit a two-out two-run double to left
- Georgetown (26-10, 8-1 BE) tied the game up in the top of the third, but the Retrievers would take the lead right back in the bottom half of the inning when Ryan walked, moved to third on an Anthony Swenda single, and then scored on a Luke Trythall sacrifice fly.
- The Hoyas plated two in the top of the fourth to go up 4-3, but UMBC exploded for five runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good
- Dawson Baracani and Kyle Eddington walked, and Matthew then tied the game with a one out ground-rule double
- Georgetown then made a pitching change, but Taylor greeted the new pitcher by smacking his first pitch into center for a two-run single that made it 6-4
- Ryan then followed by blasting a two-run shot to double the lead at 8-4
- In the fifth, Baracani was hit by a pitch and Ong walked to put the first two runners on
- A pair of wild pitches plated Baracani, and then Ong would score on an RBI ground out from Eddington to make it 10-4
- Evan Selmer made his season debut in the sixth and worked a scoreless frame
- Georgetown would get a run in the seventh and another in the ninth, but would get no closer
