Vines Shines on First Day of Competition at America East Swimming & Diving Championships

Lexington, Va. – Freshman diver Andy Vines earned a silver medal and the 200 medley relay team took bronze as the UMBC men's swimming and diving team opened up the competition in the 2024 America East Conference Swimming and Diving Championships.

Vines qualified in second place in the men's 3-meter diving prelims in the afternoon. He amassed 296.70 points, only 7 points behind the top qualifier. Diving in the penultimate position,

Vines needed a big dive to hold off Binghamton's Dylan Norby and Maine's Riley Clark and he came through to edge Norby for second place, 262.15-261.70.

In the hotly contested 200 yard medley relay, the foursome of Max Casey-Bolanos, Dani Nicusan, Oliver Gassmann and Christian Coleman were edged by less than 0.5 seconds for silver by Bryant. The Retrievers turned in a time of 1:27.34, while first place Binghamton set a conference record at 1:26.48.

The men will compete in the 500 freestyle, 200 yard IM and 50 freestyle on Thursday.
