Lacambra Beats Bryant at the Buzzer for Second Time This Season

BALTIMORE -- Laura Lacambra hit her second buzzer-beater of the season against Bryant to give the UMBC Women's Basketball team a thrilling 54-52 win on Thursday night at The Peake.

Lacambra missed an initial layup but got her own rebound and her follow up shot went through the net as time expired.

Anna Blount had a double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Retrievers. 

How it happened:
  • Lacambra had an offensive layup with 4:10 left in the first quarter to score first for the Retrievers making it 5-2 Bryant.
  • After a Retriever foul, the Retrievers responded with five straight points taking their first lead of the quarter, 8-7 Retrievers.
  • Paloma Iradier hit a three giving UMBC the biggest lead of the quarter, but Bryant responded making it 11-11 at the end of the first quarter.
  • Jaden Walker started the second quarter with back-to-back layups to take back the lead for UMBC, 15-11.
  • Walker hit a three with 1:58 left in the half to make it 22-18 UMBC.
  • Lacambra ended the half with a layup making it 26-21 UMBC.
  • Jaliena Sanchez and Trinity Palacio had back-to-back traditional three-point plays to start the second half 32-23 UMBC.
  • The Bulldogs scored five straight points to shorten the Retriever lead to 34-30 before a Bryant timeout. 
  • Blount drew a foul with 1.0 sec left of the third quarter to make the score 40-37 UMBC.
  • Bryant started the fourth with back-to-back threes to take the lead 43-40 Bryant. 
  • Blount hit a three to give UMBC a 49-48 lead.
  • The teams traded the lead until Jordon Lewis hit a free throw to tie the score 52-52 with 33.0 seconds left of the game. 
  • After UMBC forced a Bryant shot clock violation with three seconds left, Lacambra hit the buzzer beater layup to give the Retrievers a 54-52 win against the Bulldogs.
The Retrievers stay home as they welcome UAlbany to The Peake on Saturday for a 1pm match-up.
